DocToDone

Privacy Policy

Turn confusing documents into plain language and clear next steps.

Effective date: 17 July 2026 · Version 1.0

The short version

1. Who we are

DocToDone (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is a mobile application published by VMR Labs that helps you understand legal, medical, government, financial, education, and property documents by explaining them in plain language and suggesting the actions and deadlines that matter.

This policy explains what data the app handles, where it goes, and the choices you have. It applies to the DocToDone apps for Android and iOS.

2. Local-first by design

DocToDone is built to keep your information on your device. This version of the app has no backend server of our own and no user account. When you scan or upload a document, the document, its analysis, your checklists, and your reminders are saved in the app’s private storage on your phone. We never receive a copy and cannot see them.

3. What data the app handles

Data Why Where it lives Leaves device?
Documents you scan or upload (PDFs, photos, text) To read and explain them Your device
Extracted document text / analysis, summaries, actions, dates To show you the explanation and build your library Your device No
Your preferences (language, audience, document types) To tailor explanations to you Your device Sent with the document as context to the AI provider
Reminders you set To notify you before a deadline Your device’s notification scheduler No
Camera image To scan a document Processed on device; text extracted (OCR) locally Only the resulting document/text, as above
Read-aloud audio (text-to-speech) To narrate an explanation Generated on device by your OS voice engine No

We do not collect your name, email, contacts, location, advertising ID, or device identifiers, and the app contains no analytics or tracking SDKs.

4. AI processing (the one thing that leaves your device)

To explain a document, its contents must be read by an AI model. DocToDone sends the document — either the file itself (for PDFs) or text extracted on your device (for photos) — together with your chosen language and audience settings, directly from your phone to our AI provider, Google (Gemini API / Generative Language API). The model returns the explanation, which is then stored only on your device.

Follow-up questions you ask about a document (the in-app assistant, “Echo”) are sent the same way, along with the document’s analysis as context.

Google processes this data as our AI provider under its own terms. Google states that data submitted through the paid Gemini API is not used to train its models. See Google’s Gemini API Terms and Google Privacy Policy. We do not send any identifier that links a document to you.

Please avoid scanning documents whose contents you are not comfortable sending to an AI provider for processing.

5. Device permissions

Permission Used for
Camera Scanning a document. Images are processed on device.
Notifications Sending the deadline reminders you choose to set.
Internet / network access Sending a document to the AI provider for its explanation.

The app does not request microphone, location, contacts, or advertising-ID access.

6. Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with anyone for advertising. The only third party that receives document content is our AI provider (Google), and only for the purpose of generating your explanation, as described in section 4. We may disclose information if legally required — but because we hold no copy of your documents, we have nothing of yours to disclose.

7. Data retention & deletion

Your documents and analyses stay on your device until you delete them. You are always in control:

Because there is no DocToDone account or server, there is nothing to delete on our side and no “export my data” request needed — the data never leaves your possession.

8. Children

DocToDone is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect data from children. The app is intended to help adults understand documents, which may include documents concerning their family.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data. With DocToDone this is direct: all of your data lives on your device and you can view or delete it at any time. If you have questions about these rights, contact us below.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change how the app handles data — for example, if a future version adds accounts or cloud sync — we will update this page and revise the effective date above. Material changes will be reflected in the app’s store listing.
